-
Yes! Hårtwood is an excellent place for families.
-
The short answer? Less than you think — and more than you realize.
Hårtwood was designed to create space for unstructured time. Slower mornings, shared meals, time outdoors, and the simple rhythm of being in the forest. Much of the experience is less about scheduled activities and more about allowing the land and the season to shape your stay.
That said, you won’t be without inspiration. Upon booking, you’ll receive our detailed digital guidebook — a curated collection of our favourite on-site rituals and off-site recommendations throughout the Haliburton Highlands. From hiking trails and paddling routes to local farm stands, Nordic skiing, hidden swimming spots, and nearby dining, everything we genuinely love and return to ourselves is included.
The Hydda, our communal bar and gathering space, is open most weekends and occasionally for special events — offering coffee, wine, and seasonal programming for both overnight guests and the local community. Details and hours are shared in advance of your stay.
For a preview, you can explore our Experiences page.

Outdoors, each treehouse includes a private fire pit with firewood provided, as well as a BBQ with propane supplied.
Guests also have access to shared forest spaces across the property and The Hydda, our communal bar and gathering space.

An additional non-refundable special occasion site fee may apply for events such as weddings or larger gatherings. This fee will be clearly outlined and added to your reservation details prior to booking confirmation.

Inside, you’ll find records to spin, board games to linger over, and plenty of quiet corners for long naps.

Yes — for elopements only.
The Baltic is designed for quiet, deeply personal celebrations, typically just the couple. A photographer and officiant are welcome.
Any additional guests, vendors, décor, or installations that may impact the property must be discussed and approved in advance. The setting is intentionally minimal, and we aim to preserve the integrity of the site.
If you’re considering an elopement here, reach out directly and we’ll share what’s possible.
